Letter of Understanding

If you want to create or run an "official" Osho place you have to sign the so called letter of understanding, in which you accept that "Osho" is a legal trademark and what this means for your Osho place. "Osho" as part of an url of a webpage is exclusively for the Resort and the Team only. So your place will be some kind of franchise of the Resort.

It′s not certain whether this letter of understanding (dated September 19, 1998) is still actual. But similar politics of the Team will probably be.

We have drafted a letter for common understanding as to the use of the word Osho. Partly it is concerned with reminding you that this word is legally protected and we want to ask you to help us so that it will remain this way. Osho wanted that we legally protect his name in order for his name to be used only in connection with his vision, his meditations and his work and not to get mixed up with anything else which leads people in a wrong direction or confuses them.

Therefore permission is needed for using this name. For example for a new "Osho Meditation Center", "Osho Information Center" or "Osho Institute" a permission will be given willingly if there is a common understanding about Osho′s guidelines as to the function of such a place. For example an "Osho Meditation Center" is a place for the purpose of presenting Osho′s vision and to regularly offer his meditations.

One of the main features of an "Osho Meditation Center", or of any other place that has the name "Osho", is that only Osho and his vision will be presented. Osho has made it very clear that his centers should give no platform for people who want to present their own vision or teachings. He says it is okay if you want to do that, this is your freedom, but then please don′t use his name, choose another one.

We want to invite you to share with us this simple and clear understanding, that an Osho place is a place for Osho only.

Everybody is welcome to visit an Osho place and participate in meditations or other activities including the "Osho White Robe Brotherhood", which is also called "Evening Satsang with the Master". These events take place in the presence and ambience of Osho, and Osho talks for himself without any mediator. He also says: "I have no successor."

Osho wants that in his centers no activities are run by ex-sannyasins.

An "Osho Meditation Center" conforms to the AIDS guidelines consistent with Osho′s insight.

Other conditions for the use of the name "Osho" you can find in a manual "Orientation for Osho Centers" published by Osho Global Connection. We have in store copies with the latest state of affairs.

To protect the registered name "Osho" we want to draw your attention to the fact that some legal circumstances have to be respected.

The licence for the use of the name "Osho" will be given to a specific person, or some legally defined entity, and can be withdrawn any time. Without permission of Osho Global Connection, which acts in the name of Osho International Foundation, the licence cannot be given or transferred to somebody else or to another entity.

The permission to use the name "Osho" precludes activities that have nothing to do with the center. The permission also precludes use of the name "Osho" as a part of an URL of the World Wide Web. If you want to use the name "Osho" for any other activity please contact:

Wir haben ein Schreiben zum gemeinsamen Verständnis über den Gebrauch des Wortes Osho aufgesetzt. Zum Teil geht es darum, Euch daran zu erinnern, dass dieses Wort rechtlich geschützt ist, und wir möchten Euch auch darum bitten uns zu helfen, dass es auch so bleibt. Osho wollte dass wir seinen Namen rechtlich schützen, damit sein Name immer nur in Verbindung mit seiner Vision, seinen Meditationen und seiner Arbeit benutzt wird und nicht mit irgendetwas anderem vermischt wird, das Leute in eine falsche Richtung führen oder verwirren könnte.

Deshalb benötigt man eine Genehmigung, diesen Namen zu benutzen. Eine Genehmigung wird bereitwillig erteilt, wenn es zum Beispiel um ein "Osho Meditation Center", "Osho Information Center" oder "Osho Institut" geht, bei dem es ein gemeinsames Verständis über Osho’s Richtlinien über die Funktion eines solchen Platzes gibt.
